If you're stuck on which log cake to get, and whether one will be enough, this one's for you.
Here's my quick answer. Pick the flavour your table will love most, plan one slice per guest, and order at least 3 days ahead. If you want your cake on 24 or 25 December, book early. Those slots go first and fast.
This Christmas we have two brand-new whole log cakes and, finally, a box of minis. All of them are MUIS halal certified and made to order in our own kitchen.
What is a Christmas log cake?
A log cake is a sponge rolled around a cream filling, then frosted to look like a log. The French call it a bûche de Noël. Bakers in France made it a Christmas favourite in the 1800s, inspired by the old custom of burning a big log through the season.
I love a log cake for a practical reason too. Every slice shows off its spiral, so the cake looks as good on the plate as it does whole. Put one on the table and it immediately elevates the table and gives it that warm festive feel.
Our log cakes this Christmas, and which one to pick
Chocolate lovers, go for the Chocolate Yuzu. If your crowd prefers something lighter, the Earl Grey Strawberry is your cake. And for a big party or an office, the Mini Chocolate Cremeux lets you skip the cutting altogether.
Let me start with the Chocolate Yuzu, because this one has me excited. It's close to a sachertorte, a rich chocolate cake, except we've swapped the usual apricot jam for Japanese yuzu. Chocolate and yuzu sound like an odd pair until you taste them together. The chocolate lands first, then the citrus lifts every forkful and keeps you going back for more. It's also the first time we've shaped our log cake as a traditional bûche de Noël, and I love how it sits in the middle of the table.
The Earl Grey Strawberry came from a simpler place. I drink a lot of Earl Grey, so it was only a matter of time before it ended up in a log cake. We roll bergamot sponge with sweet strawberries and chantilly cream, then pipe in our housemade berry jam and lemon curd for contrast. The result tastes like afternoon tea dressed up for Christmas, and it's the one I'd hand to anyone who prefers something lighter than chocolate.

Then there are the minis, and honestly, I don't know why we took so long to make them. Each Mini Chocolate Cremeux arrives decorated and ready, so every guest gets one equal piece. No knife, no mess and no negotiations over who got the bigger slice. They're moist and properly chocolatey, with a little raspberry on top, and they disappear fast.
How many slices in a log cake, and how much to order
My rule is a minimum of one slice per guest, maybe two. Each whole log cake gives 12 slices and weighs 900–1,200 grams. A box of minis feeds up to 12, one each.
A few things I've picked up from years of Christmas orders: mixing whole and mini works well. Put the whole log cake in the middle for the photo, and the minis on a side platter for second helpings. After a big meal, cut thinner slices and one cake goes further.
When to order your Christmas log cake
You're welcome to book up to 60 days ahead, and for Christmas Eve (24 December) or Christmas Day (25 December), please do. Those dates go first and they go fast!
Sending a log cake as a gift is one of my favourite ways to say Merry Christmas. We deliver straight to the recipient. Add your message at checkout and we'll take care of the rest.
How to store and serve your log cake
Pop your log cake in the fridge as soon as it arrives, and enjoy it the same day. We send each one chilled with an ice pack, and whole log cakes come with a cake knife. For clean slices, dip the knife in hot water, wipe it dry, then cut. Do this between every slice and the spiral stays neat. And please have someone home to receive the delivery. Cream cakes and Singapore heat are not friends.
